You can overcome challenges to reach your goal

61638602_MWe all have goals. They can be large goals or more simple ones. They can be long-term or completed in a shorter amount of time. No matter what kind of goal you’re focusing on, it’s important to you. You’re at a point where you want to improve some aspect of your life, and you’re making it a priority. Good for you!

If the goal you’ve set is worthwhile, it will have its challenges. It may not be as easy as you expect. All significant goals come with challenges along the way. We’d love to give some advice on how to persevere when the going gets tough as you work on your goal.

Identify the obstacles
What kind of challenges will you come across as you work toward your goal? Are there temptations or stressors that could lead you astray? Seek to identify these as you begin.

Educate yourself
What kind of steps will you need to take to accomplish your goal? Have you put together a plan? Make sure you know everything about your goal and what kind of obstacles are related to your goal.

Seek advice
Never attempt to go at a goal alone. Allow others to work with you toward your goal. Should you seek professional advice from a life coach? Make sure you have a support system ready for when times get tough.

Think small
If your goal is long-term or takes a large amount of focus, take smaller steps. You’ll be more likely to overcome obstacles when you’re taking it one step at a time.

Remember why
Remind yourself as often as possible why you’ve decided to make this goal. When there are stressors or obstacles that could prevent you from accomplishing your goal, remember the reasons why you began in the first place.

Enjoy the journey
Keep in mind that obstacles will happen. This is part of the journey toward accomplishing your goal and creating a successful future for yourself.

Keep a positive attitude
If you become negative, you will be less likely to overcome the obstacles you face. Positivity can be a challenge all on its own, but it’s always worth putting in the effort to look on the bright side.

If you would like more tips for overcoming obstacles to accomplish your goals, we’d highly recommend signing up for our free educational series. We would love to help you along the way as you accomplish your goals and discover just how joyous success can be.

What can you do to support National Recovery Month?

36353392 - female hands giving red heartSeptember is National Recovery Month in the United States. Whether you live in the US or not, this is a great opportunity for us as recovery coaches to reach out to our communities and push for change. Whether you’re looking to do something large or something small to help promote recovery, we have some suggestions for you. Let’s all take some time this month to promote recovery in our homes, neighborhoods, and communities.

Participate in community recovery events.
This month there is plenty going on in cities and communities around the country. Visit SAHMSA.gov for event listings or to be inspired for events you might help organize in the future: http://ift.tt/2aYYBmW

Share your story as a recovery coach.
As recovery coaches, we all have a story to share. We can share our own unique paths toward becoming a recovery coach, or we can share a story we’ve heard from someone else we know. Many people still don’t know the role recovery coaches play. This is a great opportunity to educate others.

Get involved in your local government.
This could mean becoming a member of or starting a community action group, support a local official pushing for more recovery funding, or encourage your local government to sign a proclamation to support recovery. Do something that will make your local government leaders understand how important recovery is.

Share support hotlines and information on social media.
We can share information about recovery and support hotlines all year long. But during National Recovery Month, those you’ve connected with on social media may be more inclined to listen or pay attention. Sharing something on social media is free, easy, and quick.

There are things we can all do to help promote support, safety, and recovery during this month. Let’s all do our part to help those around us who may feel alone or lost. We hope you are able to enjoy this time to be a voice in your communities.
